Free Shopify Tool

Shopify App Stack Cost Calculator

Free tool that detects the apps installed on any Shopify store, totals the typical monthly and annual cost, and ranks which ones replace cleanly with native Liquid so you can see exactly what you could stop paying.

A skincare brand came to me convinced their problem was traffic. Their actual problem was a $1,600-a-month app stack doing work their theme could already do: a page builder for two landing pages, two reviews apps mid-migration, a popup tool, and a currency converter that Shopify Markets handles for free. Replacing the replaceable ones with native Liquid cut the bill by roughly $900 a month and made the storefront faster at the same time.

This calculator runs that audit for any store. Paste a URL and it detects the installed apps, totals the typical monthly and annual cost, and ranks which ones replace cleanly with native Liquid, with the annual saving on each. It pairs with the App Bloat Index, which measures the same stack’s speed cost. When you want the native-Liquid rebuild done properly, book a free call.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the App Stack Cost Calculator know what apps a store runs?
It fetches the store’s public homepage HTML and matches it against a signature library of 50+ Shopify apps, the same library that powers the App Bloat Index. Each app leaves a fingerprint in the page (a CDN domain, a script handle, a CSS class), so the tool detects what is installed without any login or access to the store admin. It only sees apps that inject something into the storefront, which is almost all of the paid ones that matter for cost.
Where do the monthly costs come from?
Each app in the library carries its real public pricing tiers reconciled to typical mid-DTC usage. The tool picks a sensible default plan for your revenue band, then lets you override the plan on any row to match what you actually pay. The totals recalculate live as you adjust. Treat the defaults as a directional model and confirm the exact figure on each app’s own pricing page or your Shopify bill.
What does 'replaces cleanly with native Liquid' mean?
Many of the most expensive apps duplicate something Shopify themes can do natively: a page builder doing what theme sections already do, a reviews widget that a free or one-time alternative covers, a popup app replaceable with a small custom snippet. For those, the tool flags the app, names the native or cheaper path, and shows the annual saving. It does not flag apps that genuinely need a third-party service, like payment or shipping integrations.
Why does app spend matter beyond the monthly bill?
Two reasons. First, the obvious one: a stack of 15 apps at $40 to $150 each quietly becomes $1,000 to $2,000 a month, often for features the theme could handle. Second, every storefront app injects JavaScript that slows the page, which costs conversion. This tool measures the dollar cost; the App Bloat Index measures the speed cost. Run a store through both for the full picture.
Is this accurate enough to make decisions on?
It is accurate enough to spot the problem and size the opportunity, not to replace your actual Shopify bill. Detection can miss an app that loads only on certain pages, and pricing varies by plan, region, and usage. Use the output to find the expensive, replaceable apps worth a closer look, then verify the real numbers before you cancel anything.
