What is a first-visit scan?
A first-visit scan measures a cold, uncached page load, which is exactly what a first-time visitor gets. It uses Google Lighthouse lab data through PageSpeed Insights to capture the render filmstrip, the first-paint metrics, and the blocking time each third-party app adds. Returning visitors load from cache, so lab data is the honest picture of a new shopper’s first impression.

Where does the data come from?
Google PageSpeed Insights (Lighthouse), called through a same-origin proxy so no API key is exposed to the browser and your URL only ever goes to Google’s public endpoint. Nothing about your store is stored. You can also run any URL directly on pagespeed.web.dev and get the same underlying numbers.
Why does it default to mobile?
Most Shopify stores are 60 to 80 percent mobile traffic, and Google ranks on mobile field data. A first-time mobile visitor on a mid-tier phone is the hardest load to pass, so it is the one that matters most. Desktop is available with one tap for completeness, but fix mobile first.
How accurate is the app cost?
The blocking time per app is measured by Lighthouse’s third-party attribution, so it is real, not an estimate. The monthly cost is the typical published Shopify App Store tier for that app, matched by name. Your exact plan may differ, but it is close enough to see which apps are not earning their weight on the page.
Can I scan a competitor, or only my own store?
Any public store URL, including competitors, because it only uses public pages and Google’s public API.
