Free Shopify Tool

Shopify Plan ROI Calculator

Free calculator that compares Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Plus on total cost (subscription plus processing fees) for your revenue and order volume, and shows the break-even on upgrading.

A furniture client was on the Basic plan doing roughly $180,000 a month, proud of the low $39 subscription. They were paying the 2.9% Basic card rate on every order. Moving to Advanced cut the rate to 2.5%, which on their volume saved about $720 a month in processing against a $360 subscription increase. They were leaving roughly $4,300 a year on the table to save $360.

This calculator runs that math for any store. Enter your monthly revenue, order count, and the features you need, and it compares the total cost (subscription plus processing) on Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Plus, then shows where upgrading pays for itself. FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Shopify Plan ROI Calculator decide the right plan?
It computes total cost on each plan, which is the monthly subscription plus payment processing. Processing is your revenue times the plan’s card rate, plus a flat fee per order, plus the third-party gateway fee if you do not use Shopify Payments. Higher plans charge a lower card rate, so above a certain revenue the processing savings more than cover the bigger subscription. The calculator then recommends the cheapest plan that also meets the features you selected (B2B, Markets, checkout extensibility).
Why can a more expensive Shopify plan be cheaper overall?
The subscription is the visible price, but processing fees scale with revenue and are usually the larger number. Shopify charges roughly 2.9% on Basic, 2.7% on Shopify, and 2.5% on Advanced for online card payments. On a store doing $200,000 a month, the 0.4% gap between Basic and Advanced is about $800 a month in processing, which dwarfs the roughly $360 subscription difference. The calculator surfaces that break-even so you stop overpaying on a cheaper-looking plan.
Are the prices and fees current?
The defaults are 2026 US list prices and standard Shopify Payments rates. Pricing varies by country, by annual versus monthly billing, and by negotiated Plus terms. Treat the output as a directional model, not a quote. Always confirm the exact numbers on Shopify’s pricing page for your region before switching plans.
Does this account for third-party payment gateways?
Yes. If you toggle on a third-party gateway (anything other than Shopify Payments, like Stripe or PayPal as the primary processor), the calculator adds Shopify’s extra transaction fee, which is 2% on Basic, 1% on Shopify, 0.6% on Advanced, and 0.2% on Plus. That fee is on top of whatever your gateway charges, and it is one of the strongest reasons higher-volume stores move up a plan or switch to Shopify Payments.
What feature needs force a specific plan?
B2B and wholesale, Markets Pro multi-market controls, and full checkout extensibility (custom checkout, Shopify Functions at scale) are Plus features. Advanced and custom report builders start on the Shopify and Advanced plans. The calculator filters out any plan that does not meet the boxes you tick, so the recommendation is always a plan you can actually run your store on.
