The single question AI engines ask about Shopify agentic storefronts more than any other is not how they work. It is whether a given store can use them yet. I see it in my own AI citation data: “to which stores is the agentic feature available” is the top query I get cited for. So here is the eligibility answer, channel by channel, without the marketing gloss.
TL;DR: The ChatGPT agentic storefront is live for eligible Shopify stores now; Copilot, Google AI Mode, and Gemini are early access. You find out you are eligible by email and an admin notification, and when you are, checkout is on by default. The hard requirements: products eligible for Shopify Catalog, agreed Supplemental Terms, and completed store policies. The catch most merchants miss is the per-channel US-selling rule.
Why this matters for your store
- Agentic checkout is active by default once you are eligible, so you can be selling inside ChatGPT without having pressed a single button, and most merchants do not realise it.
- The eligibility rules are about who you sell to, not just where you are, so a store outside the US can be in while a US store that skipped a setting is out.
- Getting this wrong in either direction costs you: you either miss a live sales channel or you surface products you did not mean to.
Which Shopify stores can use agentic storefronts right now?
The honest status in mid-2026 is split by channel.
The ChatGPT agentic storefront is generally available to eligible Shopify stores. This is the live one, the channel actually moving orders today. Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Mode, and Gemini agentic storefronts are in early access, which means they are rolling out and not yet open to every store.
Shopify states that as of March 2026, agentic storefronts are available to millions of merchants. So this is not a closed beta. It is a broad rollout that has already reached a large share of the base, with the AI channels lighting up on different timelines.
How do I know if my store is eligible?
You do not have to go hunting. Shopify sends an email and an admin notification when agentic storefronts become available to your store. You can also open the agentic storefronts section in your Shopify admin to check current status.
The part that surprises people: when your store is eligible, checkout on agentic storefronts is active by default. You do not opt in for products to be discovered, and you do not flip a switch for customers to buy. You only need to stay opted in to the integration and keep your products eligible for Shopify Catalog. On the stores I audit, the most common surprise is realising the channel was already live and unattended.
What are the requirements for every agentic channel?
Three requirements apply to every agentic channel, no exceptions.
First, your products must be eligible for Shopify Catalog. Catalog is the data layer agentic storefronts read from, so a product that is not Catalog-eligible cannot appear or be purchased in an AI channel. This is where clean product data and schema stop being an SEO nicety and become an eligibility gate.
Second, you must read and agree to the Agentic Storefronts Supplemental Terms of Service.
Third, your Terms of service, Privacy policy, and Return and refund policy must be completed in Settings, Policies in your admin. Incomplete policies are a quiet blocker. An AI channel will not surface a store that has not posted the basics a buyer needs.
ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Mode: the per-channel rules
This is the table that actually decides whether you are in, and it is about your customers, not just your country.
ChatGPT. Your store must sell to customers in the United States. Your business itself can be based outside the US. So a UK or Canadian brand that ships to US customers qualifies for the ChatGPT agentic storefront. The rule is the audience, not the registration.
Microsoft Copilot. Same shape: available to eligible stores that sell to US customers.
Google AI Mode and Gemini. Stricter. The store must be based in the United States and sell to US customers, and you must be using the Google and YouTube sales channel with Product sync activated. Two of those three are easy to miss, so if Google AI Mode is your target, check the Google channel setup first.
If you sell internationally and the US is not one of your markets today, agentic storefronts are not yet a channel for you, and that is the real eligibility wall for non-US-selling brands.
What is the Shopify Agentic Plan, and do I need it?
This is where merchants get confused, so the short answer: if you already run a Shopify store, you almost certainly do not need it.
The Agentic Plan is built for businesses that are not already on Shopify. It lets them add products to Shopify Catalog and sell on agentic storefronts without running a Shopify online store and without migrating off their existing platform. There is no monthly subscription cost, and they pay standard payment rates when products sell through Shopify Checkout.
So it is a side door into agentic commerce for non-Shopify merchants, not an upsell for existing ones. If you have a Shopify store, your eligibility flows through the plan you already pay for.
I’m eligible. What do I do, and which setting turns it off?
Once you are eligible, the work is small but worth doing deliberately.
Confirm you are opted in in the agentic storefronts settings, check that your best products are Catalog-eligible, and make sure your policies are complete. That is the floor for being present and purchasable.
To pull back, agentic storefronts are opt-out. You can disable the integration in the agentic storefronts admin settings, and you control individual products by managing their Shopify Catalog eligibility. A product that is not Catalog-eligible will not surface or sell in AI channels, which is your lever for excluding specific items.
The deeper work, once you are in, is making sure an AI agent that reaches your product finds clean, complete, citable data. That is the difference between being eligible and actually getting recommended and bought, and it is the same data discipline that drives organic AI citations.
The takeaway
- ChatGPT agentic storefront is live for eligible stores; Copilot, Google AI Mode, and Gemini are early access. Check your admin and your email.
- Checkout is on by default when you are eligible, so you may already be selling in AI channels unattended.
- The per-channel rule is about selling to US customers, and Google AI Mode additionally requires a US-based store on the Google and YouTube channel.
- You only need the Agentic Plan if you are not already on Shopify. Existing stores get eligibility through their current plan.
- Catalog eligibility plus complete policies is the floor. Clean, schema-correct product data is what turns eligibility into actual citations and sales.
